Located in the middle of Vancouver Island, 15 minutes West of Qualicum Beach. Quick access within 30 minutes to Courtenay/Comox, Qualicum Beach, Parksville, Nanoose Bay and Nanaimo. Immediate attractions include Spider Lake (2 minute drive) and Horne Lake.

SPIDER LAKE

One of the best swimming lakes on Vancouver Island. Relatively shallow, the lake heats up to something that resembles a glorious bathtub and the swims are epic. We try to get out everyday for a quick dip to finish up the day. The lake is also rare in the fact that no motors are allowed (Fuel powered or electric), perfect for kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing (DFO stocks the lake with Rainbow Trout) and whatever other ideas you may have. Explore the numerous islands you can enjoy in private and get away from the pack.

Horne Lake Caves

Horne Lake Caves is an underground wonderland located at the far end of Horne Lake. Networks of limestone caves litter the area beneath your feet. Great area for a moderate hike. Feeling a bit more adventurous? Self guided and fully guided cave tours available.

Big Qualicum River Regional Trail

This trail starts at the Big Qualicum Hatchery and follows a 10 kilometre-long, gravelled trail along the river. Amble along under the riverside tree canopy, explore the Fisheries and Oceans Canada hatchery complex, and if your timing is right you’ll get to see the salmon spawning in the fall.

Little Qualicum Falls

The awe inspiring power of a waterfall. Great area to do a little hike and take in the surroundings.

Oyster River Potholes (If you’re traveling up island)

The Oyster River Potholes are a series of small, deep limestone pools cut by the river. Popular place to cool off with a swim on a hot day. Parking is in on the side of Highway 19 just after the bridge but before Cranberry Lane if heading north. Look for a wildlife gate which you pass through to get to the trail.
